The Red Line Foundation provided financial assistance for the purchase of the prosthesis for Cosmin Achirei. The boy of 14 from Romania went through amputation as a baby at the age of one-month-old after a botched injection.

Cosmin was born in 2006. His mother died when he was very small. He is raised by a father who works abroad and the boy is looked after by his aunt. Until March, this year, Cosmin was living and learning in a children’s sanatorium. But all kids were sent home because the faсility was transformed into a covid-hospital. Starting from autumn Cosmin is attending the village school.

Theranova clinic in the city of Oradea (Romania) has studied the boy’s medical history and assured good prosthetic care for the unusual level of amputation known as hip disarticulation. Specialists made him a prosthesis that has both the hip joint as well as a knee joint. The involvement of Red Line Foundation provided more possibilities than rudimentary prosthetics could give.

“He is very happy and satisfied with his prosthesis. Our team and the patient appreciate this support. It makes a real difference and impact”, said Jaco du Plessis, director of Theranova clinic.
